Storyline:
‘Gulal’ is a political drama about a young guy whose name is Dileep. He comes to Jaipur with his sevant to study. He happens to come across many people in the college including:
Singh Ransa – is a sensitive man who does not like to follow old ideologies and has regular clashes with his father who is the local Raja.
Jadwal – is a college goon who teases Dileep.
Anuja – is a professor and is teased with Dileep.
Duke Bana – is the local leader and gathers Rajput young men. His demand is to have a new state for the group from the government.
Kiran – is the one who uses Dileep for her political ambition.
The movie begins with Duke who convinces Ransa to contest elections in college. Although Ransa is not interested in politics nonetheless agrees. And has a opponent Kiran. Once the political rivalry grows, Ransa is killed by Kiran’s brother, who is Ransa’s illegitimate sibling. After Ransa’s murder, Dileep gets forced to replace him and he then wins the college elections.
Now Kiran likes to achieve her political dreams. For this, she gets close to Dileep so that she can have the post of the general secretary. Dileep becomes emotionally dependent on her and there the differences ooze out between Dileep and Anuja due to Kiran.
Later on, it becomes visible to Dileep that he has been used by Duke Bana so that he can carry on the Rajputana movement and the true identities of the people with their political agenda could come out of the “Gulaal” (colored) faces. The story takes more turns when Dileep is replaced by Kiran after Dileep’s resignation from the post. Kiran later begins to use her feminism to get close to Duke Bana and parts with Dileep whereas he is utterly in love with her. Eventually, the conspiracy and plots are revealed resulting in a new face of the leader who comes out from the crowd.
