Director: Tony Gilroy
Tony Gilroy penetrated the world of corporate corruption with smarts, suspense and searing insight in his 2007 directing debut, Michael Clayton.
He revisits that territory with only he does it with plenty of sexual tension to go along with his usual crackling dialogue and complex plotting. The storytelling here is more dense, but the tone has a sly, sexy playfulness about it that significantly lightens things up.
Julia Roberts and Clive Owen may not immediately seem like the likeliest screen pair for a romantic comedy, especially following the devastating moments they shared in Closer. But here they enjoy a delightful chemistry as former spies and on-again, off-again lovers who scheme to steal tens of millions of dollars from the dueling corporate behemoths that employ them. Roberts looks great in her return to leading-lady status after a few years off — strong, curvy, formidable — and Owen drops the steamy glower he's adopted of late and almost seems to have a twinkle in his eye this time around.
Writer-director Gilroy jumps all over in time and location with these two — the globe-trotting and high-tech tactics reminiscent of the Bourne movies he scripted — as he follows the constantly evolving relationship between Roberts' ex-CIA officer Claire Stenwick and Owen's former MI6 agent Ray Koval.
They've figured out a way to rob the rival pharmaceutical companies for whom they serve as undercover operatives in Manhattan; apparently, paranoia is rampant among the people who are supposed to make you feel better about yourself through conditioner and toothpaste. Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti, as the egomaniac titans of industry on either side of this Park Avenue war, bring substance to what could have been a couple of cartoony roles, and the healthy balance of A-list stars and veteran character actors is part of what makes so appealing.
But because Claire and Ray are so paranoid themselves, as their careers have required them to be, they never know whether they can trust each other, something Gilroy shows us in flashbacks over the past five years in locales including Dubai, Rome and Miami. (Robert Elswit, an Oscar winner for There Will Be Blood, provides the gorgeously glossy cinematography.)
When they first meet at a US Embassy party, he seduces her, she slips something in his drink, then ransacks his hotel room and takes off with secret information. Ray has been figuring out ever since then how to confront Claire should their paths cross again — which they do, repeatedly — and the way his tone changes each time he delivers his schpiel is one of many clever running gags.
The threat of a double-cross keeps them both on their toes and infuses their affair with a buzzing and frequently hilarious tension. That's precisely why it seems so needless when Gilroy eventually gives in and spells things out for us. The guessing game was too addictive — for them and for us — and it didn't have to end.
Goody died at home in Upshire, Essex, in the early hours of Sunday (UK Time) after a very public battle with cancer.
Goody's cancer diagnosis had come while she was shooting for reality TV show Bigg Boss 2 in India. She had to quit the show just weeks after joining it in Order to go back home and start therapy.
In February, she was told it was terminal. The actor was being treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital in west London but wanted to die at home with her family.
Doctors had said that the disease spread to her liver, groin and bowel.
Jade Goody begged doctors to kill her after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, it has emerged. She had asked the doctors for a fatal injection or pill that would end herSuffering, reportsthe website of the British tabloid The Sun.
Jade has secured the of her sons Bobby, five, and Freddy, four as well as donated generously to various charities, according to reports. Reportedly, there is also a will in place by the actor about how her funeral should be conducted.

The 27-year-old dental nurse who shot into as Big Brother contestant in 2002 had lived her last seven years under spotlight.
Straight: Good for a few laughs
Rating: 2 out of 5*
Starring: Vinay Pathak, Gul Panag, Siddharth Makkar, Anuj Choudhary and Rasik Dave and Ketki Dave.
Director: Parvati Balgopalan
Settled in London Pinu Patel (Vinay Pathak) is a successful restaurateur who runs an Indian restaurant. But the 30 crossed simple at heart bloke is still a virgin. His foster brother Rajat (Sid Makkar), however is a complete opposite of him and is a confident and extroverted young man. A wannabe stand up comic artist (Anuj) lands up at Pinu’s restaurant hoping for a job but Pinu hires him instead as a cook who can also do a stand up comic act to entertain the hotel patrons. Also, the very same day Pinu hires Renu (Gul) as his hotel’s cashier. These two new recruits change things for the better for Pinu as his business starts soaring. The three now become very good friends and start hanging out together. But certain situations then lead to make Pinu believe that he may actually be having Gay leanings. His foster brother Rajat advises him to have a sexual romp with hot woman but all one thing leads to another and the chaos it all leads to forms the rest of the film where Pinu has to struggle finding the woman of his dreams as well as come clean on his sexuality.
The wafer thin plot of the film appears stretched after a point of time. Agreed the film generates a few laughs here and there but what irritates you in the feeling of déjà vu that Vinay Pathak has begun to generate while watching him on screen nowadays. It’s the same act he has been putting up in his recent films such as Dasvidaniya and Oh My God the basic good at heart simpleton with a heart of gold who is always misunderstood by others. The film’s production values are of high standards and the locales of London have been captured very well too.
Parvati Balgopalan who gave us the delightful romantic comedy Rules-Pyar Ka Superhit Formula in her second outing does a decent job. She efficiently handles the comic portions and kept the narrative engaging. The peppy soundtrack of the film adds fun to the proceedings.
Like mentioned above, Vinay though puts in a sincere effort, disappoints as there is no novelty in his performance. The only new thing well he manages to smooch Gul Panag. Gul looks extremely hot and puts in a good performance. Newcomer Anuj Choudhary is likeable. Siddharth Makkar is good as well. Real life couple Rasik and Ketki Dave, together perhaps for the first time in a Hindi film, are fun to watch.

There have been fights in B-Town in the recent months and the Aamir vs Shah Rukh and Salman vs SRK battles have caught a lot of attention.
But there have been unusual friendships too, like between the likes of Sallu-Aamir and Akshay-Aamir.
Now the buzz is that Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan have been bonding big time.
The actors who played brothers might have had some problems while making the ‘Krazzy 4’ song but that’s a thing of the past now.
The ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ actor and King Khan have been catching up a lot these days.
Hrithik is a permanent fixture at Mannat and he and wife Sussanne have been at most parties at King Khan’s home.
Not only that, they even partied together when they were in Dubai last year for the opening of Atlantis. SRK was at Roshan Jr’s home a few nights ago.
A source said, “It was no occasion as such, just a casual affair. SRK was there for quite a while. Later in the night, the host and the guests decided to play dumb charades of Hollywood flicks. The guests were divided into two teams of Hrithik and Shah Rukh. Both sides did their bit of miming and SRK’s team was declared to be the winner.”
They manage to keep the dosti going in spite of their busy schedules.
The source added, “Though Hrithik is extremely busy with his home production Kites, he is still taking time out to catch up with SRK. A few weeks ago, the duo was even spotted chilling out together.”
But this is not the first time that the two have bonded. It has happened in the past too.
“In 2006 when ‘Krrish’ had released, Hrithik had a special screening for Shah Rukh to garner his frank opinion. Later, when Hrithik was in London to promote the film, SRK (who was holidaying there) had hosted a special dinner for him.
B-Town is slowly getting a whiff of the SRK-Hrithik bonding. Both stars refrain from talking about each other. Hrithik is known for being extremely guarded while SRK has not yet given his reply to Aamir’s recent outbursts against him.”
This sure is one special yaari. We just hope it stands the test of time, unlike all other crumbling friendships in B-Town.
Bobby Deol plays a hired killer in his latest Ek - The Power of One, nine years after he played a similar role in Bichoo. The actor says he has no problem playing a negative role again.
“There were no apprehensions. Actors who play romantic heroes in most of the films don’t get apprehensive before taking another such project; so why should I?” he said.
Directed by Sangeeth Sivan, Ek is a remake of Telugu film Athadu and also stars southern star Shriya Saran.
“Though I also did such a role in Bichhoo, this one is a far more stylised version of a professional killer. In fact I was very excited when I saw the southern version of Ek and said yes to the role,” said Bobby.
Known for his action image, the 39-year-old said that the action sequences in the film were something to look out for. “The USP of the film is its action. It has been shot and choreographed very well and it will offer amazing action sequences to all action fans in the country. They’ll love it,” he said.
Bobby shrugged off media rumours that he jumped off the 14th floor for the film. “My jump has been exaggerated in the media. I jumped only from the seventh floor, not 14th -though that was also scary enough,” he laughed.
Bobby, who was last seen in Dostana with short cropped hair, was excited about his new look in Ek.
“I sport a straightened hair look in the film. It’s ironic that my hair has been straightened despite my constant advice to people that one should not get them straightened at all as it spoils your hair,” the actor said.
The film has Nana Patekar playing a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inspector and Bobby is all praise for the 58-year-old’s energy levels. “Nana is a great guy. He is so agile and active. In fact, for his age, he is so fit and I really admire him for that,” he said.
Apparently Nana almost always surprised the unit members with his energetic sprints and his rigorous gym sessions. But Bobby too is known for his fit physique. What’s the secret behind that?
“As far as my physical regime is concerned, I just do my usual workout including a bit of cardio. I don’t work very specifically on my body for any one film,” the actor said.
Asked if he also planned to venture into direction like his elder brother Sunny, he said: “I don’t know. I can’t foresee the future. It’s a dream of every actor to direct a film some day, but who knows.”
Bobby’s future projects include Cheers - Celebrate Life, Roshan, Formula No.44 and Gangs of London.
A FedEx cargo plane has crashed on landing at Tokyo's international airport.
The plane, on a regular flight from Guangzhou, China, burst into a ball of flame killing the pilot and co-pilot on board.
The plane, which was landing despite high winds, appeared to bounce off the runway.
Narita Airport's firefighters and rescuers immediately swarmed on to the plane. The pilot and co-pilot - the only people on board - were pulled from the cockpit and taken to hospital, where they were later confirmed dead.
National broadcaster NHK identified them as 54-year-old
The longer of Narita's two runways remained closed with all incoming flights diverted.
Unusually strong winds of up to 47mph were blowing at the time, but airport officials said it was too early to say whether the strong winds had caused the crash.
News reports said the plane was an MD-11, a wide-body airliner built by McDonnell Douglas and based on the DC-10
Both were present in the press conference where this was formally announced in Kolkata.
Buchanan clarified at the press conference that, "The decision has nothing to do with Sourav Ganguly's performance. It's just that we would like him to concentrate on batting when he's batting, bowling when he's bowling."
Earlier, Indian Express reported that Kolkata Knight Riders’ director of operations John Buchanan is set to appoint as many as four captains for the second edition of the Indian Premier League. Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, Brad Hodge and Sourav Ganguly are expected to have their turns at leading the team as the former Australian coach seems inclined to make the captain’s post rotational.
It is learnt that Buchanan on Tuesday had a long discussion with Ganguly, KKR’s captain last year, in this regard and the latter nodded in the affirmative. Later, Ganguly told a news channel: “All I can say this has never happened in cricket. Let’s see how things turn out.”
Two weeks into the finals, religion is playing a big role on the popular show. More than half of the remaining 11 finalists have regularly performed at places of worship. The March edition of the fashion magazine Elle, made me not just surprised but highly delighted when I saw the beautiful cover girl. Looking like a supermodel, she was none other than the talented young actress, Sonam Kapoor.
Sonam simply looks stunning on the cover. And it's not just the cover, her pictures inside the mag scream in silence showing the untapped potential that Sonam has. One must say that God must have really spent a few extra hours while creating this beauty.
The lovable Sonam Kapoor is leaving no stone unturned in her quest to become the Queen of Bollywood. Just feast your eyes over her hot cover shoot for Elle magazine.
This time you can’t miss Elle.
It was Deepika who came out as the apt choice to be the Showstopper at the 'Delhi Fashion Week 2009. Even as she was strutting the ramp, one just could not believe that it was actually Deepika as it's a known fact that Tarun has always been a Shilpa Shetty loyalist.
All said and done, full marks to Deepika for her sensuous presence on the ramp. Her red and maroon gown simply set the ambience just right for the day. Full points to this stunner for maintaining her trademark saccharine smile throughout the show.
Deepika Padukone has had a dream-run in Bollywood with just three releases, but the model-turned-actress says her dream is to play the elegant Audrey Hepburn, her style icon.
"I would like to play Audrey Hepburn, my style icon, in movies like Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Roman Holiday", Deepika said on the sidelines of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, where she walked the ramp for Ranna Gill and Rina Dhaka’s collections sponsored by luxury brand Fiama Di Wills.

Deepika is now looking forward to begin work for newcomer Vijay Lalwani’s "Kartik Calling Kartik", which also stars actor-director Farhan Akhtar and Boman Irani.
The actress admits she has a soft corner for action movies, though all genres appeal to her.
As Indian cinema changes to adapt new formats and contents, Deepika feels the role of women in cinema is also changing.
"It is becoming more challenging. Even in the past, there were movies where women did not have to run around trees. An actress could opt to show off her talent."
Deepika usually decides on the projects she takes up after reading the scripts.
Deepika, who is former badminton player Prakash Padukone’s daughter, says she was good in other sports besides badminton as well.
"Apart from badminton, I played state-level basketball, baseball and was an athlete," she said.
Salman Khan who is known for his large heartiness among his friends and family has had a huge influence on his ladylove Katrina Kaif.
Katrina is smitten by Sallu’s gestures of love. She has done something which is totally unheard of. The actress went to distribute Rs 5 lakh of hard cash among unit members of her upcoming film Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahaani on the last day of the shoot which included technicians, make-up artists and spot boys.

When all seems to be going fine with the dusky, cat-eyed beauty Bipasha Basu, there is some grumbling whisper from her. Her Aa Dekhen Zara is set for release and is attracting enough attention to lift hopes for a fair success, Bipasha’s Bengali film Sob Charitro Kalponik is giving her sleepless nights.
Bipasha is very dissatisfied the way dubbing of Sob Charitro Kalponik is being carried out.
Directed by Rituparno Ghosh, the film is a promising venture starring the dusky beauty. Ghosh had earlier said about the film, “I want to make a film that does her (Bipasha) proud. I genuinely believe that we haven’t seen even the tip of her talent.”
But she is upbeat about the future course of events. Busy like a hurricane promoting her upcoming Aa Dekhe Zara.
Her next film Lamhaa releases by the end of this year. In the meantime, she is to start shooting for All The Best.
Lamhaa is a very topical film about today’s Srinagar while All The Best is a comedy.
