Ganguly Has No fixed Captain for Kolkata Knight Riders: Buchanan

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders announced that there will be no “fixed captain” for the team during the season 2 of IPL. Team coach John Buchanan made this decision after discussions with the captain for last season Sourav Ganguly.

Both were present in the press conference where this was formally announced in Kolkata.

Buchanan clarified at the press conference that, "The decision has nothing to do with Sourav Ganguly's performance. It's just that we would like him to concentrate on batting when he's batting, bowling when he's bowling."

Earlier, Indian Express reported that Kolkata Knight Riders’ director of operations John Buchanan is set to appoint as many as four captains for the second edition of the Indian Premier League. Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, Brad Hodge and Sourav Ganguly are expected to have their turns at leading the team as the former Australian coach seems inclined to make the captain’s post rotational.

It is learnt that Buchanan on Tuesday had a long discussion with Ganguly, KKR’s captain last year, in this regard and the latter nodded in the affirmative. Later, Ganguly told a news channel: “All I can say this has never happened in cricket. Let’s see how things turn out.”
